Membership prize open until 29 February 2024!
It’s a leap year! As a cherished colleague, we invite you join us (if you are not a MEMber already) for a chance to win in our prize draw by registering for membership between now and Thursday, February 29 at 23:59 EST. Our aim is to make you our 400th MEMber, by doubling our membership pool from the current 200 to 400 in the coming eight days. We are confident that we can achieve this—with your help! The countdown starts now…
How do I enter the prize draw?
Renew your membership today for a chance to win. It won’t take more than two minutes of your time. Simply navigate to our membership form, fill in your basic details, then click on “individual member” (which gives you a one-year membership) and follow the link to the payment line for $40 (or the equivalent amount in the currency in which you do banking). That’s it!
Our 400th member will receive, as the winner, a gift of an additional three years of membership for free, thus being covered for four years of membership until the next leap year in 2028—all for the price of one year!
How will I know if I’ve won?
The winner will hear from us by Friday, 15 March 2024. We will announce the winner (with their consent) on our social media platforms and website.
What will my contribution of $40 be spent on?
This relatively small fee of $40 will make a huge difference to MEM and the community of scholars that it represents. It will support and also make you eligible to benefit from:
- MEM sponsorship of innovative and exciting conference panels (at MESA in the US, and IMC in Leeds; and we are expanding beyond the English-speaking world)
- The continued running and award-giving for our much-loved dissertation prize, book prize, lifetime achievement award, and more
- MEM’s online peer-reviewed journal, Al-‘Usur al-Wusta, which is now a major publication outlet for high-quality, cutting-edge research on the medieval Islamicate world across regions, languages, and periods. The journal is run largely by volunteers, but copy editing is expensive!
To catch up on our news, we invite you to check out our newly launched MEM newsletter, as well as our social media pages on X/Twitter and Facebook.
We can’t wait to welcome you! Please feel free to get in touch with our Secretary, Rob Haug (haugrt@ucmail.uc.edu), or with me (arezou.azad@ames.ox.ac.uk), if you have any further questions.
